The cdf Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex, a flagship venture of China Duty Free Group (CDFG), is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary on September 1, 2024. Since its grand opening, this iconic shopping destination has attracted over 70 million visitors, significantly boosting tourism in Hainan Province.
A Decade of Growth and Expansion
The journey of the cdf Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex began in May 2009, when the Hainan provincial government granted CDFG exclusive rights to operate a duty-free shop in Sanya. The store, which initially spanned nearly 10,000 square meters, catered exclusively to foreign nationals and residents from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. With the implementation of Hainan's offshore duty-free shopping policy in 2011, the store expanded its offerings, becoming a leader in China's duty-free retail industry.
To accommodate growing demand, the complex underwent significant expansion. Phase I of the expansion, launched on September 1, 2014, increased the complex's size to 120,000 square meters, making it the world's largest standalone duty-free store at the time. This expansion marked a new era for China's duty-free industry, bringing in more brands and solidifying the complex as a must-visit tourist destination in Hainan. The complex further grew with the addition of Phase II in 2020 and the Global Beauty Plaza in 2023.
A Shopping Experience Like No Other
Today, the cdf Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex boasts over 850 international brands, offering a diverse range of products, including beauty items, luxury goods, electronics, and more. The complex has leveraged favorable policies to enhance the shopping experience, developing an integrity system and service standards that set a new benchmark in China's tourism retail industry.
10th Anniversary Celebrations and Future Plans
To commemorate its 10th anniversary, the complex has planned a series of events under the theme "Journeying a Thousand Miles, Cherishing Every Moment." These events include customer giveaways, celebrity appearances, and special promotions. Additionally, luxury brand exhibitions and fashion shows will showcase the complex's premium offerings, providing a visual and sensory feast for visitors.
The complex is also committed to social responsibility, supporting poverty alleviation through initiatives like the "Star Journey, Cloud Products" store, which sells products from impoverished regions. As it embarks on its next decade, the cdf Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex aims to continue innovating, optimizing the shopping environment, and upholding its commitment to quality service.
Supported by its parent company, China Tourism Group, CDFG plans to further contribute to the development of Hainan Free Trade Port and China's travel retail industry, ensuring that the complex remains a world-class shopping destination.
