Shanghai Fashion Week has been ranked fifth among the top eight global fashion weeks in 2023, according to the Global Fashion Industry Index-Fashion Week Vitality Index Report 2023 released in Shanghai on July 6. This achievement highlights Shanghai's influence in leading global fashion trends and showcasing oriental aesthetics to the world.

The report was jointly released by Jiang Wei, head of Xinhua News Agency Shanghai Bureau, Liu Min, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Tong Jisheng, chairman of Orient International (Holding) Co., Ltd., Ji Shengjun, president of Orient International (Holding) Co., Ltd., and Yu Linwei, deputy head of Xuhui District.

Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks retained their leading positions, followed by New York and London. Shanghai Fashion Week, along with China International Fashion Week, has seen a significant increase in participation, with brand numbers rising by 36.6% and 61.4% year-on-year, respectively.

In online media presence, search visibility, and social media channels, Shanghai Fashion Week ranked fourth, fourth, and third, respectively. The event leveraged short video platforms and social media to provide a dynamic platform for designers. Notably, Shanghai, China International, and Paris Fashion Weeks had the highest number of designers among the top eight fashion weeks.

The report highlights the emergence of independent designer brands in China and suggests that more designers will start their own businesses in the future. It also emphasizes the impact of artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) in new product launches, design, and promotion within the fashion industry.

To further enhance its global presence, the report recommends that Shanghai create diversified interactive fashion markets, such as pop-up stores and creative workshops, and roll out high-quality products and services.

In 2018, China Economic Information Service (CEIS) developed an evaluation system for the global fashion industry, quantifying the vitality of fashion weeks through element aggregation, media communication, and industry impact.
